Immigration law

Do you have German citizenship and want to (additionally) acquire American citizenship through naturalization? According to the current legal situation (§§ 17 No. 2, 25 Staatsangehoerigkeitsgesetz StAG ), you would risk losing your German citizenship, because if you want to naturalize as a German in the USA and do not want to lose your German citizenship, you must first apply for and receive a retention permit. (§§ 17 No. 2, 25 StAG). Although the current governing coalition has agreed that § 25 StAG should be deleted – along with other changes that are essentially intended to facilitate naturalization in Germany – this amendment to the law has not yet been passed. I will help you to apply for this retention permit and will, of course, keep you informed about the status of the amendment process.

Or are you a US citizen and want to either emigrate to Germany or even acquire German citizenship? In this case, I can also help you to either apply for the appropriate visa or submit an application for naturalization. Please note that from 2024, US citizens will also have to apply for a visa waiver for shorter visits to Germany, comparable to the current EstA procedure for Germans traveling to the USA.
